In reply to your Despatch No. 215 of the 18th ultimo, I have the honour to inform you that I addressed you on the subject of the Report of the Public Works Commission in my Despatch No. 267 of the 23rd June last.

With regard to the completion of the Praya Reclamation, I have to state that the work will not be finished for another 6 months, and that after that there will be much to be done in the adjustment of accounts and the apportionment of the cost of the works among the owners of the various lots. This work will probably occupy a further period of 6 months.

Mr. Boulton is now acting as Assistant Director of Public Works but exercises a general supervision over the Praya Works.

Mr. Mudie cannot be spared from work in connection with the Praya Reclamation for another 12 months. By that time the Praya East Reclamation Scheme should be in train for commencement. When begun it will require 2 Engineers and if Mr. Boulton is not available for it another Engineer in addition to Mr. Mudie will have to be found for the work.

I do not consider that any of the work of
